Cobra snakes are one of multidimensional tourist attractions during Jaipur travel. You can find snake charmers in main Bazaars, forts, monuments and other tourism hot spots of Jaipur with their king cobra snakes.

The snake charmers of Rajasthan are mainly of Kalbelia tribe found in desert areas. In past time, their main livelihood was selling venom for medicines which was used to cure snake bites. They were also experts of the treatment of snake bites. Farmers and villagers were dependent on Kalbelia tribe for the treatment of snake bites, which was a major problem in the villages of Rajasthan due to agricultural economy. With the time, snakes became the integral part of their life. People of Kalbelia tribe (also known as Sapera in local language) love cobra snakes and treat them as their pets. They play a musical instrument called Been or Poongi in front of cobra snakes and present the snake dance shows.

जयपुर यात्रा के दौरान कोबरा सांप भी जयपुर के विविध पर्यटक आकर्षणों में से एक है. सांप पालने वाले सपेरों को आप बड़ी आसानी से जयपुर के मुख्य बाजारों, किलों, स्मारकों तथा मुख्य पर्यटन स्थलों पर अपने कोबरा साँपों के साथ देख सकते हैं.

राजस्थान के ये सपेरे मुख्यतया रेगिस्तानी क्षेत्रों में पायी जाने वाली कालबेलिया जनजाति के लोग हैं. पुराने समय में इनकी आजीविका सांप का जहर बेच कर ही चलती थी जो कि सांप के काटने तथा कुछ अन्य बीमारियों की दवाएं बनाने में काम आता था. ये लोग स्वयं भी सांप काटने का इलाज करने में माहिर थे. किसान और ग्रामीण लोग खेती करते थे, और खेतों में सांप पाया जाना एक आम बात थी. ऐसे में ये किसान और ग्रामीण लोग पूरी तरह इन सपेरों पर ही निर्भर थे. धीरे-धीरे ये सांप कालबेलिया जनजाति के जीवन का अभिन्न अंग बन गए. ये लोग साँपों से ठीक उसी तरह प्रेम करते हैं और पालन-पोषण करते हैं जिस प्रकार किसी पालतू पशु से व्यवहार किया जाता है. समय के साथ, ये लोग सांप के खेल भी दिखाने लगे. सांप के आगे बीन या पूंगी बजा कर सांप का नाच दिखाना आज भी आकर्षण का केंद्र है.
